Allen Aversion’s mom, was just fifteen years old when she had him, and always having a tough time making ends meet. Their house was always losing its electricity, and/or water, all because of their tough time paying the bills. Allen’s biological father did not stick around, but another man did. His name was Michael Freeman, and he was going in and out of Jail his whole life. Ann feared deeply that Allen would grow up and be Just like most of the male figures he was influenced by around him in his neighborhood, also fearing that young Allen would et mixed up In the gang life on the street.
She saw basketball as a way out for her son. At first, Allen did not even like basketball. “HIS mom waited for him to come home, and she had a new pair of Jordan walling for him,” (Pungency 1). After the very first practice Allen was hooked, and all he wanted to do was to play basketball. Basketball was not the only sport Iverson was good at; he was also a very good football player, the star on his team. At first, Iverson thought football was going to be the sport to take him places, and not basketball.
He played the game better, faster, and smarter than anyone around him”, Jack Bio 1), he was oblivious to any competition that anyone threw at him. Between the two sports, Allen had enough going on already to keep him off the streets, and not running around catching drug charges, like a lot of the people his age in his area. Allen was often tempted to get in with the wrong crowd, but luckily he had a friend named Tony that cared so much about his well-being that he would rat on Allen every time he started to get Involved with the wrong group of people.
In 1990, Allen lost a few Important people In his life. Tony lost his life when he was killed by his crazy girlfriend when an argument got out of hand. The other one was Freeman, who got caught with illegal drugs and sentenced to many years in prison. During Allen’s first year at Bethel High School, his mom had given birth to Leash, and was having a lot of terrible health problems, probably from smoking so much crack, and without insurance to pay for the doctor bills it made things much more difficult for the family.
Allen eventually stopped going o school and started selling drugs to help support his mother and family. Things went from bad to worse when they got evicted, and Allen ended up having to move in with a family friend Gary “Sometime” Moore, who was his pee wee football coach. Moore however, changed Allen’s life. He made sure Allen wasn’t going to end up like the trash back In his home town; he made Allen wake up early each and every morning to make sure he made it to school on time. Allen went on to be a huge star In basketball and football at his high school, and got a full ride scholarship to
Georgetown multiversity, winner en played two years Detour getting ratted on ten very first pick of the first round to the Seventy Sires. He always gave everything he had on and off the court, but he always played every game like it was his last, that is one thing that no one can question but himself. “He played for the errs for 10 years, where he received awards, he got rookie of the year, league MAP, two time All-Star MAP, and lead the league in scoring for four years,” (PHOBIA One 2). He was eventually traded to the Denver Nuggets, and then on to the New York Pistons, Memphis
Grizzlies, and then back to the errs, where he would later on retire from the NAB. He moved to Turkey where he now plays basketball. Allen Iverson was definitely a man who overcame many obstacles and challenges in his life to go on and become one of the greatest basketball players of all time, only standing 5 foot 10 inches tall. ” It did not take long for Aversion’s outstanding athletic skills to become apparent;” (Only The Strong Survive 1). Iverson ended up leading the 2000-2001 errs to the NAB finals.
