I have been attending college, I have noticed a lot of “student anti- intellectualism. ” A lot of this concept is mandatory whether students and teachers realize it or not. College is for students who should want to better their education. Upon talking with different classmates, I have come to realize that students attend college for many different reasons other than to expand their knowledge.
Some claim to come simply because their life became a bore and they want nothing more than to socialize with new different people, and possibly make new friends. Others are Just deed up with their lives and their way of living due to the plummeting of the economy; therefore wanting to make more money. There is no better way to make more money than to have certificates or degrees claiming that they are intelligent. It is sad that people think this way. The economy today is all about the upper class and the lower class. Our nation runs on money.
This is certain why administrators “dumb down universities” all over to raise the percent of students attending college. Students who come unprepared for class, complain about homework or extra assignments, and Just simply unmotivated are leading to failure of any class. Professors will show no mercy for students who obviously do not care about learning or even their future. “Anta- intellectual students” do not want to spend their money to be overwhelmed or to work harder than they would have to on academic achievements.
Since students have the power or “money’ to believe they should pass any course, universities have no choice but to succumb to their demand. By teaching students the power of taking Intelligence Into their own hands, It can and will create a self bliss. What Is better to know something than to not know something? To know an answer to a question creates self esteem, responsibility, and sense of worthiness. For example, how does It make you feel when you answer a question right, out of a whole room of people who could not?
It makes you feel good about yourself. A goal met by learning and knowing that particular subject. It makes perfect sense to decrease the percentage of anti-intellectual students by Increasing the challenges given to children In their beginning school years. By doing so, students will be ready for upcoming challenges, and challenges that seem close to Impossible. In any sense, students should be willing to learn new things and be creative. Having creativity helps build a responsible adult. Responsible adults have goals achieved and to be achieved.
