I am writing this letter to express my sincere interest in Palomar Health’s Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) residency program.
I had the pleasure of speaking to your current resident, Dr. Kristine R. Carrasco, at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting. Her enthusiasm about the program further strengthened my interest in the opportunities that would be provided to me within your program. Your residency program offers the kind of training that is compatible with my career interest, including interdisciplinary interactions, research, teaching certificate and managerial opportunities with a commitment to deliver exceptional pharmaceutical care. Additionally, the wide selection of elective rotations will allow me to experience an excellent learning opportunity to become a proficient and well-rounded clinical pharmacist to provide patient-oriented, optimal care. My long-term goal is to practice in a hospital as a clinical pharmacist in critical care and cardiology. I am passionate about patient care and enjoy the perplexing nature of work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team focused on tackling complex clinical cases to provide individualized, evidence-based pharmaceutical care for the patients in dire need.
I feel that the mentorship of well-trained and passionate pharmacists at Palomar Medical Center will guide me to enhance my clinical skills to provide optimal patient care. My dedication to patient care is demonstrated through participating in a student-run clinic for underprivileged populations staying at the shelters in Phoenix area. I actively served the community and the interdisciplinary organization as a clinic and financial coordinator by attending clinics biweekly and providing medications. Also, I have had many exciting and rewarding experiences while working as a clinical supervisor at a medical practice with five physicians prior to pharmacy school.
Through these experiences, I learned the importance of interdisciplinary approach and effective communication skills to provide patients with the best care possible. I currently work as a pharmacy intern at Banner Boswell Medical Center, which has given me invaluable insight into many aspects of a successful hospital pharmacy operation. Collectively, my experiences have helped me to deepen my desire to exceed in the profession of pharmacy and shaped me into a compassionate, hardworking, and team-oriented individual who can succeed as a resident at Palomar Health’s program. As the largest hospital district in California, many awards winning Palomar Medical Center’s PGY-1 Residency Program will provide a challenging yet supportive environment where I can advance my skills to become an outstanding clinician.
If given opportunity, I will work hard to contribute to Palomar Medical Center tradition of providing the high-quality care for patients safely and efficiently. I look forward to speaking with you and members of the pharmacy department regarding the next steps in application process. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for considering my candidacy for your pharmacy residency program.
