In the novella Of Mice and Men the author John Steinbeck focuses on the loneliness of California ranch during the 1930’s.
In life one of the importing things to have are friends because people without friends will suffer loneliness. For example like in this novella not everyone has the same connection and friendship as George and Lennie’s. In the story men travel from ranch to ranch not really talking or communicating. John Steinbeck talks about how important friendship is, and how much people need it. Without it people would be different and lonely.
Candy, Crooks, and Curley’s wife had no friends and all dealt with loneliness in many ways. In the novella Candy deal with his loneliness by being nice and talking with George and Lennie, also by helping them clean the garden. Steinbeck describes how friendship matters by describing George and Lennie, how without each other they wouldn’t live. Also how some people just won’t talk like if they were scared of each other. George and Lennie are like brothers always protecting each other.
George was talking to Slim saying how Lennie and him look out for each other. And then Slim said “‘Ain’t many guys travel around together,’ he mused. ‘I don’t know why. Maybe ever’body in the whole damn world is scared of each other.'” (35).
This quote shows how people are scared of each other and just won’t communicate. The author also shows how George and Lennie aren’t like this. Steinbeck describes how much friendship is needed. The Author describes why sometimes we just don’t talk to each other. This is very significant because George and Lennie are bestfriends and without their friendship they wouldn’t live. Without each other George and Lennie wouldn’t even live. They would have been sad and solitary because they wouldn’t have anyone to talk to.
They would have been like any person in the ranch all solitaries. Because of they way George and Lennie are they are friends with some of the ranch workers. George knew Lennie’s Aunt, Clara. Later when Aunt Clara died Lennie sticked to George. “Him and me was both born in Auburn.
I knowed his Aunt Clara. She took him when he was a baby and raised him up. When his Aunt Clara died, Lennie just come along with me out workin.
‘ Got kinda used to each other after a little while.” (40). This passage from the text shows how George met Lennie. It was because when Lennie’s Aunt died, Lennie started to be with George and then they got just to each other.
This is how later on they created their friendship. Because of their friendship, it has gotten them through many stuff. Always protecting each other. Friendship is noble, Friendship is divine, and a true friend is really a gift of God.
George and Lennie are a perfect example of good friendship and how much it mattered during the 1930’s. However George and Lennie have both been through difficult and hard times, but no matter what, nothing will stop their bestfriend relationship. The Author shows how difficult life was during the 1930’s mostly to have a best friend relationship. Friendship has changed a lot since the 1930’s some people think to have a best friend doesn’t matter anymore, but some will even sacrifice their life for their best friend. If we wish our friends should be true to us, then we
