FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT 
The most common type of evaluation.A helping process aimed at improving teaching techniques.

Evaluators concentrate on in class performance & help teachers perceive what is happening during instruction.Philosophy of: 1. Individual Excellence, 2. Self-Evaluation, 3. Feedback to improve teaching

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT
Collects and interprets data over a specified period of time to evaluat such things as teachers’ competence and teaching outcomes.Results inform decisions about hiring, compensation, status, tenure ; termination.
AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENTS
Evaluations that reflect people’s true abilities to perform under real-life conditions.Concerned less with recognition and recall of facts and more with ability to apply what they know.
TEACHER PORTFOLIOS
A collection of artifacts that communicate a teacher’s abilities to perform her job.Might contain: tests and homework assignments the teacher gives students, samples of students’ work, lesson plans and a videotape of a lesson.
THE PRAXIS SERIES
