a.  Identify whether the door swings out or in

b.  Insert either the ADZ or Fork end of the Halligan into the jamb approximately 6″ from the lock

c.  Pound the Halligan past the jamb using a flat axe or sledge

d.Pry out on the Halligan forcing the door out

4.The firefighter will simulate prying open an inward swinging door by using the following four (4) steps:




a.  Identify whether the door swings out or in

b.  Insert the Fork end of the Halligan into the jamb approximately 6″ from the lock

c.  Pound the Halligan past the jamb using a flat axe or sledge

d.  Push in on the Halligan forcing the door in

5.The firefighter will simulate prying open a door from the hinge side using the following six (6) steps:

a.  Make sure door cannot be opened by any other method (including removal of hinge pins)

b. Starting at the bottom of the door place the fork end of the Halligan in the jamb next to the hinge

c. Pound the Halligan into the jamb with a flat axe or sledge forcing the hinge to pull out from the jamb or the door

d. Repeat this procedure for the other hinges, stoppingat the top hinge

e.Make sure the attack team is ready before prying out the top hinge

f.  Remove the top hinge
