Many people avoid pit bulls or act negatively toward pit
bulls. But why is that? Why do people think pit bulls are bad or dangerous? Why
just pit bulls? There are other dog attacks, but pit bulls get all the
negativity. Some of the reasons is that the media and news outlets often
refrain from covering dog attacks if they are not caused by a pit bull. Because
of all this negativity towards pit bulls so whenever there is a dog attack and
the species is unidentified the media will simply call it a pit bull. Due to
this the people’s opinion on pit bulls being bad is strengthened.

            Pit bulls
are often called violent but that is not anywhere close to the truth. As
reported in a Time article, there are many dog attacks. “But from 2010 to 2014,
35 shelter dogs fatally attacked humans. All but 11 were pit bulls,” as stated
in the latter source. That is a surprisingly small number. This shows that
bulls are getting a very bad reputation from the media. In addition, Sara Enos,
the president and founder of the American Pit Bull Foundation says that,” that
it’s wrong to blame dog attacks on pit bulls, because it’s the owners who are
to blame/It really boils down to being responsible owners, any dog from any
breed can be aggressive, it matters how it’s treated.” Again, this shows that
pit bulls are being discriminated against other dogs. Consequently, people have
the thought that pit bulls are the only dangerous breed reinforced.
