Mike Trucott Taylor HarrisonEnglish III5 December 2017 Baby It’s Hot Outside Global warming is a major problem that people as a population are facing head on without any proper knowledge on how to fix it. The solution should be finding new ways to solve this problem and find ways to stop it happening in the first place. Global warming is when there gradual increase of atmospheric temperature. The population need to solve this problem before it has drastic effects on the population, like in coastal areas were resident will lose their homes and businesses to rising sea levels. The global population should make better effort to slow down or stop the effects of global warming. Global warming is one of the worst events that is happening to the planet and to other people on the planet. When talking about global warming, one of the biggest problems that is displayed is who does global warming effect. The people living in coastal areas will be affected the most, when sea levels start rising, due to melting glaciers, people will start losing homes and business that are on the coast. In the article “Global Climate Change: Effect” by NASA they discuss the effects of global warming and who it affects throughout the United States like in the northeast where “Infrastructure, agriculture, fisheries and ecosystems will be increasingly compromised¨ which is why this needs to stop. While were talking about the bad effects of global warming there should be a discussion on what other problems that global warming causes like draught, rising sea levels, etc. Global warming is not the worst event in the world there shouldn’t be such a big debate on whether we need to take care of it. Like for instance the giant whole that is forming in the ozone layer and letting in more uv rays which inevitably will give all the world’s population cancer and will most likely make us look like lobsters with terrible sunburns. On top of that we can’t deny the fact that when the earth start warming it is gonna get extremely dry, which also means that growing food will be harder and water will become scarce and will most likely cause worldwide drought. Now while the talk of not being able to grow food is the topic but there is no factual evidence to prove that claim yet but there is evidence that shows what would happen. Can you imagine “in a future in which heat-trapping gas emissions continue to grow, increases of a month or more in the lengths of the frost-free and growing seasons are projected”this means that the earth heating could actually eventually make more food people if there is a longer growing season (NASA). If sea levels are rising then why hasn’t the government been moving people closer inland. In this article it shows that “global sea level has risen by about 8 inches since reliable record keeping began in 1880. It is projected to rise another 1 to 4 feet by 2100. this is the result of added water from melting land ice and the expansion of seawater as it warms”(NASA). When this happens oceanic ecosystems will start to die off. In addition if it gets warmer and frost season is shortened then we can assume that it will get very dry in the areas that we grow in, it will be impossible to grow in the dry soil and the lack of water will make watering the field a difficult task as well, which will end up losing food instead of making more. These are what eventually will take out people on earth no water, no food, no life, no more humans. The best thing about global warming is that it can be solved with different option to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that we release in the air. If different ways to fix or even at the least slow it down the human race can keep thriving on this beautiful planet called earth. There could be a way to even reverse the effects the scientist just need more time to figure it out, but we are running out of time instead of gaining. The earth is warming and we have better be prepared. There are so many different way to solve global warming that it’s amazing that global warming is still happening. One of the main ways is to convert to clean energy, this means to stop using energy sources such as coal, oil and, natural gas and then moving to cleaner energy like solar, wind, water, and nuclear. Their also needs to be a increase in using more fuel efficient cars or start a global switch to electric cars author David Biello explains this same thing in this article “biodiesel hybrid electric vehicles (that can plug into the grid overnight) may offer the best transportation solution in the short term, given the energy density of diesel and the carbon neutral ramifications of fuel from plants as well as the emissions of electric engines” (Biello). With this we can cut our fuel carbon dioxide output by six tons of fuel. There is one other thing that has been lurking around the solution swamp it called planting more trees instead of chopping all of them down “deforestation accounts for up to 15 percent of global emissions of heat-trapping gases” (“Forest”). This probably the most revolutionary action that we could and have been taking. There are tons of company dedicated to replanting tree one of them is a small apparel company called TenTree, whenever a products is bought tentree are planted. Trees have even shown that “in one day, one large tree can absorb up to 100 gallons of water and release it into the air, cooling the surrounding area” (“Forest”). Now that it has been stated that problems can be washed away with electric cars it is now time to learn the truth about what electric cars really mean. In this article the author explained what would happen if the world started to switch to electric cars and the burning of fossil fuels for energy was still in being used “but plug-in hybrids would still rely on electricity, now predominantly generated by burning dirty coal. Massive investment in low-emission energy generation, whether solar-thermal power or nuclear fission, would be required to radically reduce greenhouse gas emissions”(Biello). Now the other problems is switching, as shown here “replacing fossil fuels may prove the great challenge of the 21st century. Many contenders exist, ranging from ethanol derived from crops to hydrogen electrolyzed out of water, but all of them have some drawbacks, too, and none are immediately available at the scale needed” (Biello). Even if more trees were planted it still won’t be enough “one mature tree absorbs carbon dioxide at a rate of 48 pounds per year.” (“Forest”) Even if some things like electric cars take a lot of energy to power and run if the way that energy is produced and switched to a cleaner alternative, then changing cars to electric will cut the quantity of carbon dioxide that we produce. “the solutions above offer the outline of a plan to personally avoid contributing to global warming. But should such individual and national efforts fail, there is another, potentially desperate solution. We need to use less fossil fuels and try to use more future energy sources. Like electric cars and wind or water generated power. Future fuels are the way of the future, eventually we will run out fossil fuels. The would still use electricity so we would need to find a reliable way to make energy” (Biello). Tree are still an amazing thing, “in one year, an acre of forest can absorb twice the CO2 produced by the average car’s annual mileage” (“Forest”). That is why it is important to save the tree now. Overall it may be said that even though that the earth is warming, oceans are rising and a giant hole is forming in the ozone, there is always something to look forward to. Like for instance the new way that energy will be made or to see what the earth will look like when it is all dried up. But there should always be a thought in the back of the greater populations minds that this beautiful place that is called home won’t last forever if this global event does not stop.
